About this camp

The Scripps Research Translational Institute's (SRTI) Student Research Internship Program is a 10-week summer program designed for highly motivated high school, undergraduate, graduate, and professional students interested in health sciences, statistics, and computational/computer science. The program aims to equip students to become future leaders in translational medical research, focusing on applying scientific discoveries to improve patient care. Interns engage in real research projects under the mentorship of leading scientists, gaining hands-on laboratory experience and developing critical technical skills in areas like genomics, bioinformatics, digital medicine, and community engagement. The curriculum includes structured learning opportunities such as weekly seminars and journal clubs, alongside independent research experiences. Students learn study design, data analysis procedures, and scientific communication, culminating in the development and presentation of an independent research project at a Translational Institute Research Meeting or end-of-program poster symposium. Most interns work in a dry lab setting, though a limited number of wet lab positions are available.
